BPC-157 legal status: read the word withdrawn

A withdrawn nomination is a fact about an FDA record; drug approval and permission to compound remain absent.

The safety concerns are still in the entry

FDA's current page puts the nomination in the withdrawn table, separate from Category 2. The earlier Category 2 entries covered BPC-157 free base and BPC-157 acetate. The page does not publish a date on which BPC-157 moved out of Category 2.

FDA's recorded concerns include possible immunogenicity with some routes, peptide-related impurities and difficulties characterizing the active ingredient. Immunogenicity means the possibility of provoking an immune response. Withdrawal has not erased those concerns.

The 503A bulk-substance framework separates Category 2 from FDA's enforcement-discretion policy during review. Moving a nomination to the withdrawn table does not place the substance on a list authorizing compounding, and no FDA-approved finished BPC-157 drug exists.

The word withdrawn deserves less celebration than it gets. I see a changed entry, with no permission concealed inside it.

BPC-157 at the pharmacy advisory meeting

The July 23-24, 2026 Pharmacy Compounding Advisory Committee meeting included BPC-157 for consideration on the 503A Bulks List. FDA staff proposed against listing it; as of September 2026, the agency had posted no record of the committee's votes. The advisers do not make the final decision.

A separate analysis of the January 7, 2025 policy change describes FDA ending the old numbered categorization for new nominations. That did not authorize ingredients already in Category 2 or resolve BPC-157 eligibility.

I would underline the difference between an agenda and an authorization. The FDA interim-policy guidance describes a review framework, not a permission slip produced by holding a meeting.

What happens before a pharmacy can fill BPC-157

At mypromise.com, BPC-157 is being prescribed by Promise Peptides; a licensed U.S. clinician takes the health history before choosing whether to issue a prescription. That person meets the patient in an office or through a lawful video visit [20]. If the drug fits the patient's needs and the law allows it, that person writes one prescription [20]. Only then may a state-licensed pharmacy prepare the drug from an allowed raw ingredient [20].

A different kind of FDA-registered facility follows added rules for larger batches [20]. A video visit about BPC-157 doesn't change which raw ingredients are allowed. A real health review and a valid prescription are still required [20]. A request can end without a prescription; the service sees U.S. patients, and its choices differ across states and treatments. Compounding adds no FDA approval to the drug [20].

Ingredient rules still apply. BPC-157 is no longer in Category 2, but withdrawing its nomination did not authorize pharmacy use of the raw ingredient [16][17][20]. The rule applies even when a doctor thinks a patient might benefit. These are general BPC-157 facts, not medical or legal advice for you.

Can a pharmacy now make BPC-157 for you?

Prescribing and FDA approval are different questions: a clinician can consider BPC-157, while ingredient rules still govern what a pharmacy may make [16][20]. A licensed doctor or nurse must also write a prescription for that one patient [20]. Any state-licensed pharmacy or larger FDA-registered facility may act only when the raw ingredient is allowed. These steps describe prescription access; they do not offer care or a way around ingredient rules.

What does the withdrawn nomination mean for BPC-157?

FDA's earlier Category 2 entries covered BPC-157 by itself and BPC-157 joined to acetate, a salt used in making some drugs [16]. Category 2 stays outside FDA's usual leeway for some pharmacy-made drugs during review [17]. FDA pointed to immune reactions and trouble finding things that don't belong in the peptide. FDA's pharmacy advisers had the raw ingredient on their July 23-24, 2026 agenda, but that meeting was not a final choice, and FDA has not explained what the withdrawal means [19].
